The January transfer window has opened and that means that teams all over the world have the possibility of buying and selling players to improve their squads. And while it’s true that the January transfer window is less prone to big moves, in recent years we had transfers such as Southampton’s Virgil Van Dijk signing for Liverpool in 2018 for a world record fee or Liverpool’s Coutinho signing for Barcelona.
So there is always something interesting in the market, and one of the first choices to talk about that is Spurs’ Danish midfielder, Christian Eriksen, whose contract expires by the end of this season and he has no intention of signing a new one with Tottenham, despite the arrival of new manager José Mourinho. There are talks that he may be sold for 20 million Euros in January to make a profit and teams like Real Madrid, Manchester United and Inter Milan are some of the most likely contenders.
Speaking of Manchester United, they are currently looking for a midfielder due to having that area of their squad filled with injuries, with Scott McTominay and Paul Pogba being the most significant. Newcastle’s Sean Longstaff, West Ham’s Declan Rice, Juventus’ Emre Can and Benfica’s Gedson Fernandes are the most mentioned, but the month is still starting and United are in dire need of a midfielder.
Another player that might be looking for change teams is Sporting Lisboa’s midfielder and captain, Bruno Fernandes, who has been their star performer for the last two seasons and was closed to leaving in the summer. Teams such as Real Madrid, Tottenham and Manchester United have been heavily linked with him for the last six months, but nothing concrete has come to fruition.
A player that doesn’t seem to be moving anywhere is Aston Villa’s Jack Grealish. He has been the star performer of Villa so far this season and with them fighting for relegation, their manager has stated that Grealish is not for sale, which is very likely to scare away potential suitors such as Arsenal or Manchester United.
My personal prediction is that we are going to have at least one big money signing due to the fact that many clubs are looking for potential signings and Manchester United seems like the most likely candidate due to their major need of a midfielder. Regardless, we have to keep track and see how thing unfold in the coming weeks.
